[Killing Night #3, Futayo and Erika]
Jan. 1st, 2018 01:53 am[With the key Futayo fished out of the belly of that fish, they proceeded down to explore the locked door... which lead to the wine cellar. Predictably or not, the key worked and the door creaked open.]
Futayo-san, no drinking anything while we're here, all right? We're looking for clues, not looking to get smashed.
[Though the fact they were the first people to discover it had to be worth something.]
First things first. Check for anything out of the ordinary... a bottle that looks out of place, for example. It might be stupid, but they might have used the old 'move a bottle in the wine cellar and it opens a hidden door' trick.
Oh, don't actually touch anything, yet. But if you see a bottle that looks like its been moved or has fingerprints, tell me and I'll dust for them.
[She walks around, examining the bottles too, and the pool table.]

[She's going to look at the pool table. Mainly cause, what is this? But she can't touch it. So she's just staring.]

Date: 2018-01-01 11:10 pm (UTC)After our recent battle I was given my own bottles to drink. They were nice.
[She ducks to look under the table...]
Why is this so thick? It is too large to be kotatsu...

Date: 2018-01-01 11:22 pm (UTC)It's a pool table. Ceramic balls labeled individually with numbers are set out atop it. The object is to hit the balls into the six holes. It is not allowed to directly touch them. Using sticks, two players take turns hitting the unlabeled white ball, called the cue ball, into the other balls in an attempt to knock them into the holes. It is only acceptable to use the tip of the stick to push the cue ball. Knocking the cue ball into a hole incurs a penalty. It can be played a variety of different ways, depending on the game, but the most common is for one side to claim the 'striped' balls and try to sink only them, while the other play claims the 'solid' balls and tries to sink only them. The game is typically played in turns, with a player receiving an additional turn if they successfully sink a ball of their type. A player is not allowed to a priori declare their type of ball they will sink, but only through which type of ball they sink when they first begin. The balls are, at the start of the game, grouped together in a triangle or diamond, and this opening move is called 'the break'.
Given it occurs on a flat surface, it's possible with enough motor control and knowledge of geometry and physics to win nearly every time. It's placed among the alcohol because it's frequently associated with bars and other places people gather to drink spirits. A common past-time is to play a game of pool and wager money on who will win. Players who are adept at playing at a professional level will sometimes affect the behavior of an amateur when making a bet, then suddenly display their skills and win the entire game one-sidedly, taking the prize money without the other player having any chance of responding. These are called 'pool-sharks,' in reference to the vicious, cut-throat nature of the practice.
It is not meant as furniture. ...It's a game, after all. If you scratch the green felt it'll ruin its entire use.
The sticks, called pool cues, can make weapons, however, and even the ceramic balls can become makeshift blunt weapons when held in a fist. Furthermore there's frequently blue chalk in a square for a player to rub the tip of the pool cue into to maintain a smooth surface when the tip hits the cue ball.

It makes sense that it is not a game on Musashi if it can be dangerous. The people there are strange and prone to injuring each other for fun.

Do you know of anyone else here who favors a drink, Futayo-san?

Date: 2018-01-02 07:31 am (UTC)I overheard someone asking Akira-dono for some during the first investigation. It was the man who went into the shower with you.

Date: 2018-01-02 07:34 am (UTC)I'm sure he would be very interested in this place... or even in one sole bottle of booze of his choice.
Dazai-san has also been uncooperative with me and possibly has knowledge I must have access to. A bribe may be appropriate in this situation.

Date: 2018-01-02 07:53 am (UTC)Very well. That's your right, I suppose. The academy doesn't truly "belong" to anyone. Therefore one could say you have a right to the contents here under the rules of "finders keepers."
Furthermore, most people here are already insufferable while stone sober. I would rather not have to deal with them when they're under the influence of alcohol.
But remember one thing, Futayo-san. During the day and on nights there is no killing, you are free to do what you like. On nights like this where killing may happen, your time belongs with me and I would rather you be sober. So make sure you're free from the effects by night and you don't drink anything.
Agreed?

Date: 2018-01-02 09:08 am (UTC)...Those places? What are you talking about?
[Pause, then she realizes and smacks her hand.]
Oh! Are you talking about the 'vacation'? I just ignored it.

Date: 2018-01-02 01:46 pm (UTC)Do you think we'll have any murders, Futayo-san? We're each others' alibis... and if someone asks "Where were you?" we will be forced to explain "unlocking the wine cellar, and Futayo-san would rather not share, so it remains locked."
Is that well with you?

Tilts head other way...]
...I did not think about telling anyone. Erika-dono is the only one who knows I have this key.
[She dips her head to nod.]
Judge. That is fine.

Date: 2018-01-02 08:19 pm (UTC)You will no doubt have people like Dazai-san try to weedle the key from you. Or at least some stock of the alcohol. How will you react?

Date: 2018-01-02 09:13 pm (UTC)Judge... I understand.

Date: 2018-01-03 11:17 pm (UTC)So... we have several possibilities.
If no death occurs, then alibis are meaningless. We don't need to answer any questions about what we were doing. Potentially.
