Tell me, in your investigations and, shall we say, enforcement of how the voting will go tonight, have you encountered any evidence that there may be a person or persons who would not follow the agreed upon plan?
...Is 'enforcement' too strong? Perhaps we should say 'organization'.
[assuming Erika could find him, she'd invite Simon back to her dressing room for another talk.]
Mr. Blackquill. May I borrow your ear again?
I have several new lines of reasoning to present to you.
One: I propose that for the next person to be voted for 'disqualification,' it should be the Arch Priest Aqua, assuming she does not win immunity. She is young enough to qualify to be voted out under the "young people first" policy, and her continued presence as a voter will only confuse attempts at organization. She is too unpredictable in her personality and too stupid in her intelligence to trust to maintain a plan on how to vote. Your thoughts?
Two: I have narrowed it down to one suspect who I believe voted for me. I have come to the conclusion it was Shiba Reiichirou-san. When directly asked about his vote, he stated he voted for Ticky Mikk, but I believe this to be a lie. He expressed desire to see what "I am made out of," and asked repeatedly if I wasn't worried about being killed, or about my investigation ending when I am dead.
I must therefore come to the conclusion that his vote was actually for me. Perhaps he did not actually intend to kill me, but merely 'scare' me by showing I could 'possibly' be voted. For the record, I am not at all, because the idea is impossible on its face.
I intend to confront him privately with this theory to see his reaction. I am letting you know this before I do it.
Three: I have determined the suspect 'Rhys' did not vote for Handsome Jack. I questioned him about his vote, and he stated that the moment he and Handsome Jack saw each other when they first arrived, Handsome Jack attempted to murder him. They de-escalated the situation, and both agreed they would have a "mutual non-aggression pact"... neither would vote for each other and they'd stay out of each other's way. He concluded by affirming that his vote was for Ticky Mikk. I am inclined to believe his statements. He has no reason to lie, especially since one, 'Fiona' has confessed, unrepentant, to being one of the votes on Handsome Jack, for reasons that he was a mass-murderer and psychopath, and a viable threat to everyone.
However, Mr. Rhys did mention he talked to one Aura Blackquill about how evil a person Handsome Jack was. He then added, however, that he asked Ms. Blackquill about her vote, and she denied voting for Handsome Jack.
I myself questioned Ms. Blackquill, and I found her evasive when asked about her vote. Her claim was she at first thought she would vote for Reigen Arataka-san to see if the immunity challenge was genuine... before finally deciding to vote for Ticky Mikk as you instructed. She made no mention of Handsome Jack or considering a vote for him.
I believe there may be merit to doubting Ms. Blackquill's actions. As for the other votes on Handsome Jack, I must conclude they were either the result of 'Fiona' encouraging others to vote for him, or that Handsome Jack himself made at least two enemies with his psychopathic behavior in the time since the game began. There is also the slim chance that they were randomly placed.
I concur with your reasoning on the Handsome Jack vote, but disagree with your assessment of Aura. My sister my be rash at times, but she's an honest sort. You might even say to a fault.
I believe you are the best candidate for disqualification, as you are within the proposed age range and have already been targeted once. Your aggressive behavior will only increase the danger you face as the "game" continues. Let me speak to Shiba Reiichirou.
Well, I have an interesting report of my investigations today for you, Mr. Blackquill.
I've received a claim from Arch Priest Aqua that she was the vote for myself. I am not sure how credible I find this, but it makes as much sense as anything else she does.
Furthermore, after a confrontation with Shiba Reiichirou, he denied voting myself. He then attempted to murder me by strangulation. I will gladly show the evidence in the marks on my neck.
To my surprise, Shiba Reiichirou then claimed his vote was actually for Shimada Hanzo. He cited that it was nothing more than random choice and 'he wanted to see what happened'. In light of these developments, we can narrow down all the votes for someone other than Ticky Mikk, with the exception of those other two votes for Handsome Jack. ...And of course, the non-voters.
I did mention it to Hanzo-san as I informed him of Reiichirou-san's claim. I had promised to keep him abreast of my investigation, after all.
Really, Reiichirou-san's reaction was within a bell curve of reactions I anticipated. Why do you think I dissuaded you from speaking with him? If it had been you, he may have gone through with killing you.
Ah, Prosecutor Blackquill, thank you once again for generously offering your time for this meeting. It seems my departure will not be quite so soon, if it ever indeed comes at all.
...With your permission, I would like to request to be allowed to approach individual suspects alone and invite them to private conversation.
As it is now commonly known I do this practice, I do not think I will be in any more danger of receiving any wounds. --A suspected killer will know any attempt on my life will be a failure, and so be deterred from the attempt.
This is the reasoning of I, Great Detective, Furudo Erika. What do you think, my most esteemed prosecutor?
I think that you are reasoning backwards from the conclusion you want. What precisely makes a potential killer know that their attempts will fail?
What's more, you are in constant danger here, and need to be removed sooner rather than later, while we still have enough cooperative players to ensure your safety.
Well, obviously, because now they know I'm the detective. I can't die. Reiichirou-san's explanation of "he stopped killing me because he repented," is just ridiculous, isn't it? He stopped before killing me because I can't be killed.
Even supposing that were true about my need to be voted out, it's not going to happen this round, now.
...Apologies, Mr. Blackquill. I really did think the votes had no chance of shifting away from me, but my... shall we say pride. would not let me quietly accept that fate. I had to make that speech. And it had to be a speech using all of the reasoning, I, Furudo Erika am capable of.
Are you in agreement with my reasoning that there are certainly more killers hiding among us?
[she'll take Simon aside again, assuming he comes with.]
Mr. Blackquill...
[she sighs]
Assuming I cannot win immunity, or find enough evidence to extract another confession from a murderer among us, I'll thank you again if you'll... assist me to leave the game.
With the current round's rule change, there's simply too much risk that one of the persons willing to break ranks will use their second vote to force me to be killed. We'll have a much better chance of arranging a unanimous vote if I'm the volunteer.
By the way, I've uncovered some interesting things about Arataka-san in my investigations.
Arataka-san has entered into a sexual relationship with one Shimada Genji. --That's his own business, but given that Arataka-san wields considerable influence over the voting, and that Genji is apparently a ninja and trained assassin, it gives Genji considerable leverage over how the votes will be directed. If Genji-san were the sort to play to win without caring who he had to kill, he's in a position he can certainly exploit.
Furthermore, I searched his belongings while he slept. Arataka-san is carrying a small spray bottle of liquid that appears to be cologne. I tried to discover what manner of liquid this was by spraying a small piece of cloth with the substance and sampling the aroma. To my surprise, the liquid was completely odorless... and just a small indirect whiff was enough to knock me unconscious for no less than half an hour. It's definitely not chloroform, that would have an odor, but I couldn't identify what it is. I left it in his possession.
I have examined Mr. Fulbright's statements regarding the drinking game.
He claimed two "never have I evers" that could have been lies.
One, was that which he never failed to vote out a person who went to the hotel. However, he told me privately that he voted for Ticky Mikk, Matt Murdock, and had entered a vote for Cierra. I have no reason not to believe this, because other people already account for the votes not cast on them.
Then of course there is his other statement: "Never have I ever killed anyone," with the qualifier that there would be an exception for a prisoner he sent to death row through his contributions through police work.
